    Introduction

Before applying for federal or provincial funding, researchers should consider a few simple questions to determine if their research may be subject to federal or provincial research security policies.

Please use this self-assessment tool as a starting place to determine whether and which of these policies may apply to your application.

The tool is intended as a guide. Researchers are responsible for determining if the Government of Canada’s research security policies apply to a grant funding opportunity by consulting the individual competition information on the applicable Tri-Agency or CFI website(s).

Researchers are also responsible for determining if Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES) research security policies apply to a provincial funding opportunity by consulting the individual competition on the MCURES website.

The use of this self-assessment is anonymous and no personally identifiable information is captured during its use.
